Okay, who's up for a night of movies, popcorn, candy and soft drinks? Yeah, I'm going to guess pretty much everyone is. I don't think we ever get tired of this famous American past-time. Whether it's in the local movie theater, or the comfort of our own homes, we love to watch films. However, there is a downside to this. Okay, there are actually a couple of them. One is the fact that sitting on our butts all the time, while consuming junk food and watching movies makes us fat or out-of-shape. But, the one that really annoys me is the current selection. Why are all the new released movies re-makes of old flicks? Doesn't anyone have an imagination anymore? This is really starting to irk me.
I went ahead and watched Peter Jackson's re-make of the film "King Kong." Now first of all, I will call this one an exception to the rules. The guy was obsessed with this particular flick, and he brought it back with all the FX and dazzle it needed to be outstanding, and he did a great job. It made sense to make it again and show what it truly could be. But, that doesn't get all the other new released movies off the hook. There was no reason whatsoever to re-make "The Omen" or the many other horror flicks they keep re-making. It's been done people! We already saw the darn thing! The original Omen flick was great. In fact, there's no way to recapture that thing they had going on in the 70s and 80s. There was something unique about the horror genre that made these flicks awesome. Now scary movies are just a bunch of FX and gore. That's lame, and it leaves nothing to the imagination. It's high time for new released movies to actually be new and original again.

Television does not dominate or insist, as movies do. It is not sensational, but taken for granted. Insistence would destroy it, for its message is so dire that it relies on being the background drone that counters silence. For most of us, it is something turned on and off as we would the light. It is a service, not a luxury or a thing of choice.

I have a perfect example of new released movies that pale in comparison. The example is the re-make of "Black Christmas." Sure, I'm going to watch it in the theater. I have to. "Black Christmas" is my favorite horror flick of all time. And I will state even before it's released that it will not be able to vie with the 74 version. There's just no way. It's going to probably be gory, and it will most likely show the killer and that's a certain-death mistake for a flick like this. The new released movies have no mystery.
