When starting a video Podcast you will want to choose your video carefully. You will want to make sure that the media is clear and crisp and your recording can be easily edited. Remember the iPod screen is small and you will want to be sure that the subject matter be filmed as close as possible with out blurring. Depending on what type of video Podcast you are making will depend on your videos needs. There are many possible ways to choose footage to be spliced into a Podcast that has a normal timeframe of 10-15 minutes. Here are some tips for choosing the right Podcasting video footage for your specific needs.
Still frame and Artwork
When doing a Podcast that involves still frame photography or displaying artwork, you will want to make sure that your content is perfect. Film or shoot photos with a digital camera so that they can be easily transferred to your computer for editing and polishing. You will want to shoot your subject at close range and be sure that there is no fine detail that may be too small for the viewers. Too small detail can give the Podcast the illusion of messy or distortion because the iPod screen is not large enough to handle fine details. You want to run your photos and still frames through a photo editor to take out any distortions and make sure the picture is not blurry in any way. You will be able to edit these photos together smoothly and generate some very good footage that will look crisp, clear, and clean.
Music Videos and Concerts
| Historical Quote |
We attempt to remember our collective American childhood, the way it was, but what we often remember is a combination of real past, pieces reshaped by bitterness and love, and, of course, the video pastthe portrayals of family life on such television programs as Leave it to Beaver and Father Knows Best and all the rest.

For recording music videos and personal shows, one needs to be able to stay close to the band and musicians to make sure your frames are close ups and well put together. The best thing to do when recording live music is to record the footage and music on separate recorders that will give you better options when editing. Go through all of your footage and make sure that it is crisp and not too finely detailed. Make sure the recording of the music is good quality. If you need to use the back up audio that you recorded then that is fine too. Just be sure that the music coincides with the video. If you are splicing out some parts of the film, make sure that the music is spliced in the same area. The best way to keep your Podcast filled with close ups and not a bunch of distant band shots is to have two cameras. There should be one on the singer at all times and in close and then another to focus back and forth between other band members. This will make editing easier. You will only have to match the right lyrics with the singer and not have to worry about the other musicians.
Marketing and Sales
When making your video Podcast about a product or service you will want to keep the focus on the actual product or close up of yourself speaking about your services. If you are choosing to have some music in the back ground then make sure it does not interfere with your dialogue or take over dominance in the piece. The best way to use your video Podcast for marketing and sales is to focus all footage on the product and the seller. Use words and great content to help pull the piece together. You want to stick to highly focused close up shots for best results. Make sure to use vibrant and contrasting colors to make your product stick out. Do not try to get too detailed with your setting or back ground it will just be lost in the mix and too small a screen.
When making your video Podcast, you want to have fun first and foremost with your endevor. Also, know what you are doing and what you have in mind. A good plan always helps out. Make sure you have more than enough footage so you can splice things in and out with ease and not be dipping into the time frame you have set up for your self. It is always better to have more footage than not enough.
